Untangling Technology: Examining Your Personal Relationship to Your Device

Facilitated by Dr. Carrie Contey

On average, in 2023, people reported checking their phones 144 times a day. 75% of Americans say they check their phone while on the toilet and 60% of adults go to sleep with their devices. We are, in other words, in a relationship with our phones (and as a result, the Internet, our email, and social media). The trouble is this relationship often feels like it’s taking up far too much of our attention and time. What if we were curious about this relationship and what it’s adding or taking away from our lives? On Friday, May 17, clinical psychologist Dr. Carrie Contey will lead us through a series of small experiments that will leave us feeling clearer, calmer and more confident in our relationship with technology.

Our guests will enjoy an evening at our favorite community gathering spot, Seafolk. A prepaid reservation will be required. Tickets are $35 and include a selection of small plates. The bar will be open offering beer, wine, non-alcoholic drinks and coffee from 5pm-6pm. Carrie will lead a conversation from 6pm to roughly 7:30pm. We hope you can join us.

Tickets are $35 per guest.

Why Getting A Good Night’s Rest Is So Hard In Middle Age

Facilitated by Dr. Christopher Rutt

As many as 50-70 million Americans suffer from chronic sleep disorders, and as much as 50-60% of perimenopausal and postmenopausal women report significant difficulties with sleep. The good news is that practical strategies for improving sleep really can work without the need for sleep-inducing medications or substances.

On Saturday, March 9, Dr. Christopher Rutt , a clinical psychologist at the Boston Child Study Center, where he provides individualized assessment, consultation, and treatment for sleep-related problems, will lead us in an interactive discussion on the challenges associated with sleep during middle age and pragmatic approaches to improving the quality and quantity of sleep.

Guests will dine at Salt Water Farm’s indoor farmhouse table. Seating is limited to 19 spots; a prepaid reservation will be required. Doors to the kitchen open at 5:00pm and dinner will be served between 6:00 and 6:15pm. All guests will be offered a seasonal beverage upon arrival and sparkling or tap water throughout the meal. Salt Water Farm is a BYOB operation – you are welcome to bring something to drink and we are happy to provide you with glassware. We will do our very best to accommodate dietary restrictions.
